VITAL gyms are open to members 24/7. We’re open to the public from 9am to 11pm, but only members can unlock the door at night to use the facility without staff running the show. The sense of trust and ownership this inspires is part of what makes the VITAL Community so exceptional.

ABOUT THE JOB

Coaches play a prominent role in the VITAL community and the lives of kids. They are ambassadors for the sport and have a responsibility to lead the youth in a supportive and encouraging way. We all climb for different reasons. VITAL Coaches need to help each kid discover what they love about the sport. You will work with kids who are experienced climbers, you will work with kids who are new to climbing. It’s so important to help foster a fun and sustainable relationship with climbing so each kid can find their own place in the gym. We want these kids to love what they do, so that they can continue to do what they love for all the years ahead. The VITAL Youth Programs are what they are, not because of one singular idea. It is the culmination of every kid who has been a part of the community, and every coach who has led them. In the words of Coach Bombay, “Ducks fly together.”

We are hiring coaches for the 2024 summer camp season. Camp runs July 8th through August 22nd. Each camp is four days a week, Monday through Thursday, 9am to 3pm. Coaches are expected to work from 8:30am to 3:30pm, totaling 28 hours of work per week for 7 consecutive weeks. You will be working alongside two coaches and a summer camp director to manage groups of 12 campers (1:4 coach:camper ratio) per session. This is a SEASONAL position and does not guarantee work at VITAL after summer camp has concluded.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create an inviting space and supportive community

  • Manage risks to protect kids and gym patrons

  • Embody and exhibit the values of the VITAL Youth Programs

  • Help facilitate fun and inviting summer camp activities, both on and off the wall

  • Lead by example - kids look up to the coaches, it’s important that coaches be their best selves around campers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant experience working with children

  • Well versed in climbing etiquette, technique, and vocabulary

  • Must pass background check

  • Must have current SafeSport, CPR, and First Aid certifications (will be trained if needed)
