All of our locations are 100% bouldering and often offer other programming such as yoga, cycle, weightlifting and training spaces. VITAL gyms are open to members 24/7. We’re open to the public during the day, but only members can unlock the door at night to use the facility without staff running the show. ABOUT THE JOB

A Coach is responsible for instructing climbing teams at VITAL West Harlem & Upper East Side. They will work directly under the Head Coach to coach team members in a creative and challenging environment. Coaches will have the opportunity to work with the recreational and/or competitive youth teams. All teams will focus on learning, growth, and building connections. A Coach will work with their teams, adapting curriculum to meet the team members’ needs, and facilitating a supportive, safe, and healthy team community spirit.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review curriculum and work with the Head Coach to ensure that the needs of your team members are met

  • Establish and maintain a positive, driven, and supportive culture

  • Ensure the safety of youth team members at all times

  • Keep all necessary coaching certifications up to date

  • Stay informed on current and new training techniques 

  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with all team parents

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with all youth team members

  • Regularly assess current progress and future goals for all team members

  • Meet with the Head Coach regularly to go over current progress and future goals for your students

  • Attend competitions, trips to other gym and outdoor climbing areas for your team

  • Be a good role model for team members and representative of the VITAL team in and out of the gym

  • Follow all VITAL policies

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experienced indoor & outdoor climber

  • Preferred minimum one year coaching experience

  • Knowledge of current climbing training and technique

  • Safesport Certified preferred

  • USAC Certified preferred

  • Active First Aid and CPR certification

  • Ability to engage with parents and youth in a positive, encouraging and uplifting way

  • Great coaching skills!
